OUR STORY
Our First Website
Back in 2006, Celeste Schooley ran her own insurance agency and I (Jeremy Schooley, co-founder) was working with her to help grow the agency. We began exploring ways to get more targeted clients through the internet. We had a concept for a website that would make money on it’s own as well as funnel the insurance agency targeted leads. That website was www.coast2coastquotes.com, and it was our first step onto the web. We were super excited.
Development ended up costing us over double what were quoted and taking twice as long, even though we had detailed the scope of the work. Everyone who quoted me all said it would be easy. Knowing what we know about website development these days, what we were asking them to do was not easy. Back then we didn’t know any better.
Marketing was a disaster. We contacted 10 -15 companies we found through the search engines. We used multiple companies for marketing that all said they could do it, no problem. They always sold us some sort of cookie cutter package. Knowing what we know now about marketing, there were many mistakes we were making from the outset that no one ever brought to our attention. No one gave us a custom-tailored solution.

A year later our funds dried up. Our marketing budget was way higher than it should have been, but we were going off what these “experts” were telling us. Not a single one of the marketing companies had been successful in delivering on what they promised. They were just taking our money.
We made a lot of mistakes but we learned a lot. The most important thing we got from the whole experience was this:
The marketing companies we had worked with were making a lot of money and giving a lot of bad results. There are probably a lot of companies having similar experiences to ours. We could learn how to do it the right way for less money and give far better results.
Learning the Tools of the Trade
I got a job working at a web design and internet marketing firm in Houston. Here, I met a lot of talented people who taught me what the internet looks like under the hood.
Celeste began working on a website for her father, an attorney in Houston, in her spare time. She taught herself much of what she knows from marketing his websites online in an extremely competitive niche.
Once we had learned the techniques and had the strategies we knew would work for our clients, we took our next steps. Celeste sold her insurance agency and I left my job.
